Apprenticeship Club – Hitchin Girls School
May 23, 2025
The Weekly Apprenticeship Club, established for Year 13 students in a half hour form time session, ran from September to March, aiming to raise the profile of apprenticeships and support students with applications.
It featured a semi-structured approach, including guest speakers from various sectors, apprentices sharing their experiences, and experts like recruiters and training providers. The club also offered less structured sessions where students could explore vacancies and get assistance with applications. Resources were shared on a Google Classroom.
Although it was hard to measure success due to some students with ongoing applications, feedback indicated that students felt more prepared and informed. Some students have struggled with the demands of applications alongside schoolwork and may opt for a gap year to make applications in the next cycle and undertake further work experience. The club will relaunch in July with two introductory sessions and continue offering support, including a trip to the National Apprenticeship and Education Event in October.
