Apprenticeship Workshops – Wirral Grammar School for Boys
June 19, 2025
Throughout the year we organise Apprenticeship Workshops for students to attend. They usually last 1-2 hours and incorporate a mix of interactive tasks with a talk from employers relating to life at their company and the apprenticeships they offer at varying levels. We endeavour to ensure that a range of sectors are represented.
This year we have worked with Kier Construction, Unilever, Airbus and Dalcour Maclaren to name a few. Depending on company capacity, we sometimes arrange a workshop for a full year group on a carousel basis throughout the day or we promote the workshop and students sign up to attend if they are interested in that particular company or sector. The feedback we receive from the workshops is extremely positive. Students thoroughly enjoy working with, and hearing from, external employers who can give them a real insight into the working world.

“The presentation was well put together, to include both engaging activities and detailed information on the day-to-day life of a Project Manager. I found Amy’s stage to be the most interesting, entailing the bidding stage of the process. I was also able to gain a greater understanding on how different members of Kier use key skills such as communication, teamwork, and emotional intelligence to allow them to work efficiently as a cohort. Before this presentation, I had no clue on what Project Management looked like and had a vague image on how it would be ‘a guy in a suit telling builders where to put bricks’! But thanks to Kier it has given us, as students, a greater insight to what it is really like. They provided us with details of the apprenticeships that they offer and spoke about the benefits of working for the company. It was an invaluable session.”
