Prepared and Professional: Apprenticeship Support Programme – Simon Balle All-Through School

July 17, 2025

Our Year 13 Apprenticeship Support Programme is a dedicated, timetabled one-hour lesson each week over 16 weeks, designed to equip students with the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to secure higher and degree apprenticeships.

The programme takes students through the full application journey—from identifying opportunities to securing offers. Key topics include CV writing, cover letters, personal branding, online applications, interview techniques, and navigating assessment centres. We also cover employer expectations, building LinkedIn profiles, and developing a proactive mindset when searching and applying. What sets this programme apart is its structure and focus: it’s not a one-off workshop, but a sustained, high-impact initiative embedded into students’ timetables. Sessions are tailored to real-time recruitment windows and industry expectations, giving students the best possible chance of success.

The impact has been significant. Students report increased confidence, clearer direction, and improved readiness for competitive application processes. Many secure interviews or offers before their peers have even begun applying. By demystifying the apprenticeship process and giving students the tools to approach it like professionals, we’re helping them unlock a future that’s right for them—whether they step into industry straight away or continue to degree level while earning and learning.

“The weekly sessions kept me motivated and made the whole process less overwhelming. I knew exactly what I needed to do each week, and by the time I got to interviews and assessment centres, I felt fully prepared.”
