Our Apprenticeship Information Evening was designed to break myths, open minds, and show students and parents the real-world power of apprenticeships. Held in the Summer Term for Year 12, the event aimed to provide a clear, balanced overview of apprenticeships as an exciting and competitive post-18 option.
The evening began with a talk for parents and carers outlining what apprenticeships are, the range of levels available, and how they compare to university routes. We also covered how to search and apply, key deadlines, and the support we offer throughout the process. A highlight of the first half was a guest talk by a parent whose child is currently on a degree apprenticeship. Speaking directly to other parents, they shared what helped them support their child, the challenges they faced, and why they now champion the apprenticeship route.
The second half of the evening brought everything to life. We hosted a mini apprenticeship fair, with four alumni students who are now thriving in higher and degree apprenticeships across sectors including finance, engineering, and digital. They spoke honestly about their application journeys, why they chose this path over university, and what daily life is like in their roles. Parents and students were able to ask questions informally, getting first-hand insights and advice.
The event was a resounding success. Parents commented on how it changed their perceptions, and students left feeling more confident about their options. Hearing from real young people who had once been in their shoes made all the difference. It’s become a key date in our calendar—and one that proves how powerful alumni voices and parental partnership can be in opening doors to the apprenticeship world.
