Wider Skills – Esher Sixth Form College

December 15, 2025

Our enrichment programme culminates at the end of year 12 with two days of activities dedicated to Wider Skills.

Students take part in a range of activities, trips and unforgettable experiences. The options have been carefully designed, so there is something for everyone.

These short courses are a great opportunity to explore new activities in a range of different subject areas, giving a chance to learn something new or get better at an activity the student is already enjoying. They are also an excellent way to develop wider skills and abilities such as team-working, problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking and the capacity to conduct independent research, all of which are greatly valued by both universities and employers.

After completing her studies at Esher Sixth Form College, student Layla chose to pursue a Degree Apprenticeship with Samsung instead of the traditional university route.

“Wider Skills Week was a standout for me, especially the business workshop and mock assessment centre. The online numerical and psychometric tests and the group tasks really helped prepare me for my apprenticeship applications.” Layla.

Layla’s sister Abbie also pursued the apprenticeship route, now working as an apprentice at Mondelēz International, where she looks after clients including Cadbury.

“I loved diving deep into the subjects I was passionate about and engaging in stimulating discussions and the interactive Business Studies lessons, where I first learned about Mondelez International, which is where I work now!” Abbie.
