Year 10 Futures Evening – Royal Hospital School
July 17, 2025
Held in June 2025, the evening welcomed pupils and their parents for an immersive series of workshops led by industry professionals and academic experts, helping to inform subject choices and spotlight technical and apprenticeship pathways.
The event featured a carousel of themed sessions, allowing families to rotate through interactive talks. From green careers and AI to creative industries, medicine and enterprise, the diverse line-up gave pupils a broad view of future opportunities. Sessions challenged stereotypes; Jade Saunders of World Forest ID shared how environmental roles now permeate all sectors, while Dr Aurélie Villedieu of Essex University explored alternative NHS routes, including degree apprenticeships in healthcare science. Mike Wilson, a freelance videographer/ photographer, represented the creative industries. Mike shared his personal career journey and discussed the growing demand for creative talent in social media, advertising and digital content, demonstrating the practical routes and apprenticeships that support entry into these roles. A live “Start-Up Sprint” with Dr Will Thomas from University of Suffolk encouraged entrepreneurial thinking, while tech expert Craig Parry used real-life AI applications to show how future roles are rapidly evolving.
Each session emphasized the importance of adaptability and creative thinking in a fast-changing job market. By involving both pupils and parents, the event created a powerful shared space for career exploration and promoted both academic and technical routes.
