Solicitor Apprenticeships at TLT

We are an open and inclusive firm and we want to hear from candidates from all different backgrounds. We encourage everyone to be their whole self, to have a voice and to contribute.

Our six-year Legal Solicitor Apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to build your legal knowledge and business development experience while studying for a law degree. You’ll be at the heart of the action from day one – doing real work, delivering real results, and gaining recognition for your achievements.

Years 1 and 2 of the Apprenticeship Programme

Apprentices begin at Junior Paralegal level, undertaking two 12-month rotations across different legal teams.

Academic study mirrors the early years of a traditional law degree.

Work will vary from team to team but includes legal admin, research tasks and early exposure to client matters.

Years 3 and 4 of the Apprenticeship Programme

Apprentices continue with two further 12-month rotations, taking on more complex legal work.

The academic study covers further areas of law, such as criminal, land company and trust law, alongside coaching and professional practice skills.

Ongoing supervision and mentoring to help apprentices refine their legal skills.

Years 5 and 6 of the Apprenticeship Programme

Apprentices join the Trainee Solicitor cohort and complete four 6-month seat rotations.

During this time, apprentices will prepare for and undertake the Solicitors Qualifying Exams (SQE).

Work becomes increasingly aligned with that of a newly qualified solicitor.

Entry Criteria

Our legal apprenticeships are open to candidates who:

  • Have achieved or are set to achieve 128 UCAS Points (equivalent to ABB)
  • Do not hold a law degree
  • Have the right to work in the UK

Applying for our Apprenticeships

  1. Start

  2. 1

The first step of the recruitment process is to complete an application form. This is your opportunity to tell us more about you and why you’re interested in applying for the Solicitor Apprenticeship.

You’ll be asked to answer five questions, which are designed to help us understand your motivations, interests, and what you can bring to the role. This is your chance to really showcase your strengths, experiences, and passion—so take your time and be yourself.

Make sure you stick to the word count, as we love reading detailed and thoughtful answers.

  3. 2

If you’re successful at the application stage, the next step will be a video call with a member of our Early Careers team. This is an extension of your application form and will last around 30 minutes.

During the call, we’ll take the time to get to know you better, talk through your application, and continue to understand whether the role and TLT might be the right fit for you. We’re a friendly bunch, so there’s no need to be nervous! We want you to feel comfortable being your complete self and to let your personality shine through.

  4. 3

If you progress to the final stage, you’ll be invited to attend an in‑person Assessment Centre at your chosen office location.

This is a great opportunity for us to meet you face‑to‑face and for you to experience what it’s like to work at TLT.

Our Assessment Centres are half‑day sessions, taking place either in the morning or the afternoon. We carefully plan these to run during school half term, so you won’t need to take any time off school or college to attend.

What to Expect on the Day

You’ll take part in a small number of activities designed to help us understand your strengths and how you work with others, including:

    • A strength‑based interview, where we’ll ask questions to learn more about you and how you approach different situations
    • A group task, giving you the chance to work with other candidates and share ideas
    • A written exercise, where we’ll look at how you communicate and structure your thoughts

There are no trick questions — this stage is all about getting to know you better and seeing your potential.

  5. 4

Successful candidates will be contacted via email after.

  6. End

Need some extra support?

While our entry requirement for the Solicitor Apprenticeship is 128 UCAS points, we understand that sometimes life happens, and results don’t always fully reflect your potential.

We welcome applications from students with mitigating circumstances, and you’ll have the opportunity to share details of these within your application form. If you progress through the process, a member of our Early Careers team will be in touch to discuss your circumstances in more detail, so please don’t worry that this won’t be taken into consideration.

If you require any adjustments to the application form or assessment process, please email [email protected] and we will provide you with the support you need. All requests are dealt with confidentially and sensitively by a member of the HR team.

Throughout the recruitment process, we’re also more than happy to support any reasonable adjustment requests. After progressing and booking on to each new stage of the process, you’ll receive an email confirmation with the option to let us know if you need any additional support. A member of the Early Careers team will then contact you to talk through any adjustments with you, helping to ensure you feel comfortable, supported, and at ease ahead of every step of the process.

What our apprentices do!

Subhan Shan

“I chose an apprenticeship because it allowed me to pursue my passion for law without compromising my religious values. Funding university through student finance didn’t align with my beliefs, so during my gap year I applied for an apprenticeship instead. This route has given me the opportunity to gain a free degree while building independence, developing professionalism, and gaining high-level experience with real client contact. Over time, I’ve come to appreciate the added benefits; autonomy over my work, practical skills, and avoiding debt all while progressing in a career I’m passionate about.”

Melinda Toth

I chose the apprenticeship route as it was always my goal to become a lawyer, but a traditional university path wasn’t the right option for me. I much more enjoy learning on the job, and so my favourite aspect of completing an apprenticeship is having the opportunity to experience a wide range of the practice areas the firm covers. Enjoying a type of law in my studies doesn’t necessarily translate to enjoying it in practise, and so being able to complete more than 4 seats – as you would during a training contract – will mean I’m more likely to end up qualifying into the right team at the end of the 6 years.”

I chose TLT because of its strong apprenticeship programme, supportive culture and clear commitment to developing early talent. From the outset, I was drawn to the firm’s emphasis on collaboration, inclusivity and innovation, which has created an environment where I feel encouraged and supported to build my confidence and develop my skills.
What I’ve enjoyed most about my apprenticeship so far is the variety of work and the responsibility I’ve been trusted with across different teams, along with the opportunity to learn from experienced lawyers in such an inclusive and welcoming environment.”

TLT had always been one of my top choices after I attended an online session and experienced the friendly, inclusive atmosphere. From that moment, I knew I wanted to be part of the team, and TLT’s services and values only strengthened my determination to contribute to the positive change they are creating.
Now that I am a solicitor apprentice at TLT, the experience has already exceeded my expectations. Beyond the modern office space and the support of the amazing early careers team, my favourite part has been the wide range of opportunities for personal and professional development.
Apprenticeships are more than a fee‑free alternative; they are a supportive system designed to help you excel in your legal career.
