Vision for Hertfordshire Skills

October 14, 2025

In early October, the Hertfordshire Apprenticeship Alliance, in collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire, hosted the ‘Hertfordshire Apprenticeships: Vision, Strategy and Success in Action’ event.

The event explored how apprenticeships are shaping Hertfordshire’s workforce and contributing to regional growth. Strategic perspectives, policy updates, and real-world success stories were discussed, highlighting the collective role we all play in building skills and creating meaningful opportunities for local residents through apprenticeships. Support available for Hertfordshire employers, including levy transfer schemes and employer funding support, was also explored.

Skills England’s Deputy Director, Nikki Christie, shared the vision for Skills England, setting out priorities for growth, and how apprenticeships will evolve in the new landscape under the Department for Work and Pensions.

John Yarnham, CEO of the Careers and Enterprise Company, explored their work in promoting Apprenticeships and Technical Education and the huge achievements of the Careers Hubs over the last decade.

Additionally, there was a discussion panel of local experts, which included Amazing Apprenticeships Director Anna Morrison. The panel also consisted of Hertfordshire County Council, The Careers and Enterprise Company, Hertfordshire Futures, and the University of Hertfordshire.

Anna Morrison commented

“Events like today are vital for bringing employers of all sizes from across the county together with other stakeholders to discuss challenges, and seek collective solutions. We are fortunate that in Hertfordshire we have all of the conditions for success – passionate and committed employers, outstanding training providers and ambitious young people who want to access apprenticeships. Huge thanks to the University of Hertfordshire for hosting such an impactful event.”
